Film Simulation Recipe Cards | You need to see these!

Are you a fan of using the Fujifilm simulation modes but are frustrated with the camera’s ability to store only seven programmable slots? If so, read on to find how a creative photographer came up with a visually appealing way to overcome this issue. Film Simulation Recipe Cards

1. Fuji Perks

One of the many perks of owning a Fujifilm camera is having access to its impressive lineup of film simulations. The long-established camera company successfully developed these simulations due to its extensive experience in colour science. Having already been manufacturing film for analogue cameras for decades.

But the cherry on the cake is a Fujifilm camera’s ability to further manipulate these simulations. Settings such as colour balance, sharpness, and colour, can be altered to manipulate these simulations further. The end result is their ability to recreate the aesthetic of many retro film stocks.

2. Colour Science Subculture

This novel Fujifilm feature has given rise to an entire subculture of Fuji fans that develop, experiment, and share simulations with one another.

Fortunately, there has been extensive documentation of recipe combinations by these photographers. Saving newcomers to the ecosystem wanting to emulate their favourite vintage film stocks countless hours in their attempts to perfect the recipe.

Despite being an incredible feature, there are drawbacks. The most frustrating one I believe most photographers will agree on is a limit of a mere seven programmable simulation slots. Devastating to those who enjoy using this feature and have multiple favourite setting combinations.

3. Creative Solutions

Luckily, one of the photographers named Oleksii Prytuhin has taken a creative approach to solve this issue. Ok, he may not have figured out a way to expand the number of slots. However, he may have done the next best thing.

Oleksii Prytuhin has gone to the effort of creating several beautifully put together simulation recipe cards, with the branding of the film stock it emulates. These gorgeous artworks were built to be printed and cut to the size of a credit card. However, it is also possible to save them to a smartphone for quick access on the go.

4. Conclusion

These cards are ideal for Fujifilm photographers that shoot in multiple simulation modes and find it challenging to decide which ones to keep programmed in their cameras. By using these recipe cards, a photographer could allocate only one of their seven slots to all of these recipes. Simply reprogramming the one slot each time they desired a change.
